چکیده

Background:It is well known that collateral circulation has important roles in ischemic heart diseases. The method most commonly used at present to evaluate collateral flow is coronary angiography. However, there are debates about the functional significance of angiographically visible collaterals because angiography visualizes only vessels that are larger than 100um in diameter. Recent studies suggest that myocardial contrast echocardiography(MCE) is a useful method in assessing collateral flow because it uses small microvascular tracers(4-12um) as a contrast agent. By using MCE, this study evaluates the role of angiographically visible collaterals in patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI) and chronic ischemic heart disease. Method:Forty-one patients who underwent coronary angiography and MCE were included in this study(22 patients with acute myocardial infarction and 19 patients with chronic ischemic heart disease). Antegrade coronary flow was less than TIMI 3 flow in all patients. Myocardial perfusion through collaterals with MCE was evaluated by injecting sonicated Hexabrix into nonobstructing coronary arteries. Angiographically visualized collateral vessels were analysed as four grades and compared with the degree of myocardial opacification by MCE through collateral vessels. Result:Angiographic collaterals were frequently observed in patients with AMI and chronic ischemic heart disease with≤ TIMI 2 flow. There was poor correlation between TIMI grade and the grade of collaterals by angiography in AMI(r=-0.29, p=0.20) and chronic ischemic heart disease (r=-0.31, p=0.19). There was no correlation between collateral grades and myocardial opacification by MCE through collateral vessels in AMI(r=-0.07, p=NS) and chronic ischemic heart disease(r

Evaluation of Cardiac Mitochondrial Function by a Nuclear Imaging Technique using Technetium-99m-MIBI Uptake Kinetics

Mitochondria play an important role in energy production for the cell. The proper function of a myocardial cell largely depends on the functional capacity of the mitochondria.  Therefore it is necessary to establish a novel and reliable method for a non-invasive assessment of mitochondrial function and metabolism in humans. Although originally designed for evaluating myocardial perfusion, 99mTc...

A study of demographic and clinical features of patients referred to the nuclear medicine department of a military hospital for myocardial perfusion scintigraphy

Introduction: It seems that demographic and clinical features of patients referred for myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) is different among populations and healthcare settings. The purpose of the current study is to evaluate the clinical features and risk factors of patients referred for myocardial perfusion scintigraphy to a military hospital. Methods: As a ...

The value of myocardial perfusion imaging in differentiating between idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy from the ischemic form [Persian]

Introduction: Differentiating between ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM) is important as coronary revascularization can improve prognosis in the ischemic subgroup. Due to inherent problems of coronary angiography in patients with depressed ejection fraction (EF) introducing a noninvasive tool to diagnose those who will benefit from angiography seems...

Covid-19 manifestation on Tl-201 myocardial perfusion SPECT/CT

A 67 years old woman was referred to nuclear medicine center for myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) for assessment of ischemic heart dieses (IHD).She had a history of atypical chest pain and dyspnea since about 10 days before admission. The MPI SPECT/CT was performed by stress/redistribution Tl-201 protocol. MPI was interpreted as relatively good coronary flow with no appreciable stress induced...

The myocardial perfusion scintigraphy in asymptomatic diabetic patients

Introduction: Asymptomatic diabetic patients are at increased risk of cardiovascular complications. Myocardial perfusion scan may be effective in risk evaluation in this population. Methods: 106 asymptomatic diabetic patients (age: min: 37, max: 82, mean: 57.73±8.88), including 56 females (52.8%) and 50 males (47.2%) were enrolled in the study. Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy was performed b...
